These craftsman doors are one of my favorite styles. We can supply this door for you so you too can have a grand traditional entryway.

- - I must say, my fondest hopes were well-exceeded by getting a
response within 50 minutes, and from someone whose credentials are
dazzling, to say the least. Upon reading your reply, I raced
(well, make that plodded) out front and took a quick shot. Perhaps TMI follows, but the siding is getting renewed, refurbished, or
replaced and then re-stained (other sides of the house are done, what
shows here is most of what remains to be done.) The front
landscaping along the house also got pulled and will be replaced as
we extend our garden.

Just
behind my position for this photo is an expansive "finished"
garden we have created over the past two years- hydrangeas, roses,
hosta of many varieties and sizes, misc perennials, and a day lily
collection expanded over the past 20 years. So much for all of
the stuff that might seem irrelevant, but trying to convey that the
current rough appearance is short term as we recover from the New
England winter and move forward with exterior work and continued
landscaping, and wildlife encouragement (meaning birds and furry things.)

As
to a mission style door placement - - I fear that its placement might
be problematic with side lights – might it look kind of "stuffed"
into the space? There is 16 inches to the left of the door
frame which is still under the overhang. The entire unit won't
shift to the right because the 36" door opens in directly
adjacent to a stairway landing. I don't think the mission door would
work without sidelights because the only natural light falling
in that entrance foyer comes through the front door.

Other
related concerns: the 35 year old concrete porch and steps is other
than “styling.” The bench and carved bear on the porch would not
be part of the new motif. Also, something more design friendly than
the 4 by 4 support post is also in order – I know we can face it out
to 6 by 6 and add some bottom and top trim casing, but I would welcome
some more creative idea. I fear that, in the aggregate,
without realizing it, as I summarize this growing list of
“downsides,” it becomes apparent that dynamite may turn out to
be the fix. So - - given where we want to be headed, exterior
siding refurbished and stained, some substantial ongoing landscaping,
what can we do to move the front entry from embarrassing to WOW? Is a mission style door with
side lights workable? Good choice or over-reaching? Any
suggestions as to remedying other mentioned concerns would also be
forever treasured.
