What is the size of the garage and the studio? - It looks like the studio is created with a dormer. I want to know the footprint size of the garage. Is the studio smaller? Gorgeous design, by the way.

Great structure - would love a couple additional photos. Thanks. - We have a 125 year old converted hay barn in Vermont and are looking to add a garage/studio. Any additional photos that I can show an architect would be appreciated. My e-mail is ghpappas@comcast.net. Thanks very much. @

The construction cost for this type of building here in the Louisville area is typically $100-$150,000+. This is based on our experience with this and other detached garage structures with living/studio space above. Thanks, Emily

We definitely want to do this over our garage door. It's perfect!

The framing was assembled on the ground and then bolted to the wall as one piece. That's about all I can offer... I hope it helps! Thanks, Emily

The pitch of the main roof and the smaller overhang is 10:12. Not sure on the height but the garage doors are 8' high if that helps. The seams on the metal roof are 16" o.c. Thanks! Emily

Awning Material - What material is used for the custom awning? We are looking for something similar in Phoenix but don't know what to ask for as far as material. Knowing what you used to achieve this look would be so helpful.

This is a "snap lock" or standing seam metal roof.

Siding looks great! - What kind of wood is used for the siding? Is there a lap in the siding or does it just butt together? Also what is the stain used? Thank you

The siding is poplar and has held up quite well, likely due to the large overhangs around the building. It has a shiplapped edge and was installed on a vented drain plane. The finish we used on it was a Sikkens Cetol marine grade sealer, on all sides. Thanks! Emily

2x8? or 2x10? - just wanted to write and tell you how much I heart this garage! especially the clean line awning - simple yet beautiful - I love that it eliminates the brackets - I see another comment asking about the construction are those 2x8's or 2x10's at the underside / framing.. thanks in advance PS the absence of trim - well thought out & executed

Thank you! I believe the 2xs started as 2x10s, but they are tapered the full length down to about 3" at the end. It is the same tapered detail as the rafter tails on the larger roof. I hope that helps! Emily

The awning protrudes about 24" from the garage wall, and is about 30" tall. Hope that helps! Emily

I'm sorry but the plans for this building are not available. I recommend working with a local architect or draftsperson to draw up plans that work for your particular needs and site. Thanks and good luck with your project! Emily

How far does base of roof protrude from building? - Emily, thank you for answering my first question. We want to put a metal roof over the garage doors on our main house as well as a detached garage we are having built (to tie them together). I like the scale of this roof, hence the questions. Thanks again. Cindy

Foundation - Looks like the concrete is higher on the right side where the door is. Is that concrete high because the elevation is higher on that side and it is to keep water from getting in?
