jjnorwood04 - their cabinets are definitely not oak. It is possible, but takes preparation. There is a primer available on the market specifically for painting over wood with deep grain patterns. Not sure what it is or where to get it, but it's out there.

seabeancaptiva - well done! Really came out great. Changing to the full backsplash made all the difference. This one is magazine ready!!

Thanks Jason! We love it so much. I love to cook and have guests over so this kitchen is perfect. With your help I have the kitchen I wanted. The cabinets are cherry. I will see if I can add a close up of the the wood grain. Photo color is not exact but close. Lighter in photo. We added a chocolate wash. Took several trips to the custom guy to get the color right.

Love the color of the cabinets. We just bought a older home (1951) with punk brown cabinets. We need to wait 2 years to gut the kitchen for a complete remodel... So thankful to find this kitchen on houzz. Plan to start on the cabinets with this color to "tie me over" until the big redo! Will try to remember to post before and after pics.

I noticed the flooring in front of the washing machine on the top left looks to be about 6" wide. While the rest of the floor seems much narrower. It looks very beautiful either way.

I happen to live in a 1928 Tudor home! One other question about the hardware... what type of finish is it? I was looking at brushed nickel myself.

The cabinetry is painted Dark Granite 780F-G by Behr. The walls are indeed a iridescent paint color called Shyness by Benjamin Moore. Thanks nking43.

@jenfinkelstein - it usually depends on the BTUs of your range. If you cook a lot, consider installing a 42" range hood. If not, then a 36" wide one is fine. We used a 36" one in the above kitchen. Have fun!

The tile setter used a special tile saw kind of like a band saw. He outlined the circle clusters on the subway tiles with a wax pencil and then cut out the shapes.

kitchenhelper1 - my best advice is to work with a local painter who specializes in cabinetry to make sure your cabinets are prepped and painted correctly. They will know how to tackle the project given the cabinets current finish and condition. Best of luck!!

I don't recall the exact ceiling heights. But, the bottom cabinet (in the uppers) is 32" tall, the upper portion is 16" and there's about a 6" frieze between them.
