The Audrey pendant in white would be good looking, and has alot of size/color variations:

The Classique Taper also has color/size variations and could be a nice shape to introduce. My one word of caution with it would be to choose a very simple fabric, because the way the fabric is applied to this shape, patterns come out askew on most of the angles:

The Gresham Park is also a nice style with this pendant, but definitely more period specific, so won't necessarily work in every spot:

In regards to the finish, I have seen alot of different combinations done, and have found that mixing finishes is typically not a real big deal. Bronze and Stainless are both such universal finishes they play nicely with most scenarios.

I agree that they are 3x6" tumbled travertine, you can purhcase them in two different shades from Home Depot. The shade above and one that is lighter.

The backsplash is tumbled travertine. The lower part is a brick pattern 5/8" x 1" mosaic with a matching pencil moulding and 3"x6" tile on top.

Yes, actually. "Mismatched" cabinetry is a trend at the moment including not just different colored islands, but also different colors for top and bottom cabinetry.

In a kitchen it would be under the cabinet, where the light is in front of you, illuminating the surface and its objects, and not behind you, creating shadows.
