Explore alternative materials. New uses for various materials are popping up in each seasons' interior design trends. Silk, for example, has made its way from upholstery and drapery to pendant lighting. Traditionally, silk brings an air of elegance to any environment and provides this entry with a touch of luxe.

Don't be afraid to mix styles in a space. Take the concept a black handrail, newel post and railing a step further and paint the front door black. And add an unexpected modern light fixture and rug. If you have a smaller entry hall, go big with your rug’s size and pattern. Measure the width of the entry and look for a rug that will take up a bulk of the space. You will find you have more choices with larger rugs. Find one that has a large geometric shape that will fool the eye into thinking the space is larger.

Coat tree. More unique than your average wall-mounted hooks or coat closet, a coat tree is a practical way to hang things you won't need until later. I like the thought of seeing my favorite scarves and hats as I come and go. Why hide the things you find beautiful and visually stunning? I like this one made from reclaimed roots.
