While being able to see what’s going on in the living room while you chop veggies for dinner is a definite plus, it still pays to consider how you can gate off the cooking area to keep curious little hands out. Door openings that are larger than standard size may require custom (read: costlier) solutions. Of course, you may decide you don’t need to separate this area … but it never hurts to think about it before you buy.

I like the way that you can see into the living room and see the kids playing, but it still being separate from the kitchen. I would have a lot of windows along the counters in the kitchen, though and the sink on the wall. Island would be bigger with chairs/stools.
