Hi, the splashback is spray-painted on the back, and this can be done in any colour of your choosing. Following this it is foil-backed which ensures a consistency of colour, and also protects the paint from the adhesive used to attached the glass to the wall. It is absolutely fine to put glass behind a hob as the glass used is toughened (also referred to as tempered glass) to ensure it is heat-resistant and prevent it breaking.
