I don't believe anyone think they were a mistake.

Since they are similar finishes, like many have pointed out, it seems like it would be fine to mix them. They would be similar in hue, but just different enough in texture and shine to add to the visual interest, IMO.

I have seen a table very similar if not the same at Pottery Barn, and the chairs look like they are from Restoration Hardware.

Go to greenfront furniture...just google it online. They have these I just saw them today...only like 130 dollars a piece. They are exactly like these just without the cushions.

That's a cool table in the Brian Watford photo. After searching for a while for a vintage or antique in a small but not cafe size- I found a simple sturdy pedestal style for our kitchen on Overstock.com (deliverd cheap and fast)- it could easily be distressed or customized; chairs are West Elm

What Houzz contributors are saying:
KitchenLab Interiors added this to 15 Quick Kitchen Fixes
12. Accessorize. Add colorful or patterned cushions to your chairs. Put collections and beautiful objects on open shelves.
Tip: Think of your kitchen the way you think of your living room. How can you add fabrics, accessories and artwork?
Becky Harris added this to 24 Great White Kitchens
French-inspired: Here, the Madeline chairs, large glass bottles and other accessories hint at a trip to a French flea market.
KitchenLab Interiors added this to 8 Elements of Classic Kitchen Style
8. FlexibilityWhat I love about classic kitchens is that they’re chameleons. You can take the same kitchen and completely change its look by mixing in modern bar stools or lighting, or industrial bar stools and lighting, or traditional — you get the idea. Classic can become eclectic by adding modern tile and mixing it with a vintage-style table and chairs and industrial-style pendant lights.
Shawn Gauthier added this to Add a Metallic Edge with Nailhead Trim
Chairs generally provide a compelling accent to a kitchen table, but the additional detail around the edge will make the table’s visual appeal that much more enticing.
Kristy Woodson Harvey and Beth Woodson added this to Create Character With Contrast
The kitchen is one of our favorite rooms for juxtaposition. Combining wood with steel and chrome gives touches of both the rustic and modern, things that every room needs.
Becky Harris added this to Style Guide: Bistro Chairs
These farmhouse-style café chairs were inspired by Thonet's original A150 Bentwood Chair. Williams-Sonoma has a similar chair called the Bosquet Side Chair, and Ballard Designs offers the Constance Chair.
Sam Ferris added this to Kitchen Confidential: 11 Ways to Design With Black
6. Backsplashes. If you’ve ever shopped for a backsplash, you can imagine all of the creative black designs available. These include classic options like subway tile, and various materials, such as ceramic, porcelain, glass and even natural stone. A black backsplash doesn’t have to be loud. If you’re not a fan of solid black mosaic or ceramic tile, choose a style that blends black with one or more other colors for a softer look. This Shabby Chic-style kitchen’s mosaic backsplash coordinates with the solid black countertop but also has lighter colors in it.
