James...I am not a fan of downdraft units. I am, however, going to a Broan seminar this week on up venting and downdrafts. I understand there are more improved units available for downdraft units.

I know Broan has the 18" Cattura now.. haven't seen it in action though

Main Line Kitchen Design
I looked at the three pictures you are asking about and enhanced the photo's. All three apear to be simply tumbled marble 4" x 4" and 3" x 6" tiles.

You can see the downdraft vent if you enlarge the photo CTRL-+
Behind the cooktop there is a bit of additional stainless steel and that would be the pop-up.
What's nice about these is that you don't see them!
