Somehow I never saw this question. My apologies. I don't recall the exact depth but I think it is about 20 inches deep the cubbies were very wide so you could actually sit back into them.

Lighting option - this is a very plain/non offensive one.
It was from Home Depot a few years ago. They were rug tiles that were, as I recall, rated for garage use. I can't recall if it was in the store or ordered online.
