3 West Residence
Originally constructed in 1886 for a bank, this historic sandstone structure is one of Duluth’s unique buildings. In 2006 the building was completely transformed into a three level private residence with downtown and Lake Superior views. A large central stair and skylight along with rustic stone walls form the backdrop for a contemporary town home residence. The staircase, stone walls and original wood framing were carefully exposed and restored. New contemporary, bamboo paneled spaces were placed within this historic shell to form an office, guest bedroom, sleeping loft, dining room, kitchen, butler’s pantry and living room. The third level contains an artist’s studio, exercise room and master bedroom suite.
