Esko Farmhouse
This two-story, three-bedroom home is situated on a 65-acre farmstead that’s been in the family for generations. A detached garage/workshop and an attached screen porch add to the space while connecting the family to the outdoors.
The design uses familiar rural forms and details, with attention to overall durability and energy efficiency. For example, an open “farm kitchen;” private, defined alcoves; and interior wood details add warmth and comfort to the light-filled interior. And a first-floor bedroom and bath allow for one-story living.
When it comes to technical specifications, a very high performance approach to passive solar design—combined with superior envelope thermal performance—led to very low energy heating load.
