INSPIRATION:
Gilded plaster-frame mirror
The massive mirror had hung there, anchoring the living room of this historic house since the 1930s. It became the starting point for a wonderful restoration that offers the perfect mix of historic and fabulous.
EXECUTION:
As much as they intended to honor the historic significance of the architecture of the house, the homeowners were frank that they didn’t want to “move into a museum” when they restored this late 1800s Charleston Single House. The situation presented the delightful design opportunity to mix old and new: refined traditional furnishings layered with the energy of some carefully chosen contemporary pieces.
It is a combination that works beautifully. A dramatic hand-made contemporary light in a traditional, but dramatic kitchen. A handsome mirrored cocktail table paired with a room of period furnishings.
