Accessible Shower Conversion
Imagine having a broken ankle in a cast and both openings into your "his and her" shower are a mere 19" wide, along with a 6" dam to step over. "Please rework this space to make it as accessible as possible" was the client's wish. "Keep the stained glass window in the space too." By moving the shower plumbing location and eliminating two small corner seats, enough space opened up to make one opening more than double its original size, the other increased by 3". Removing the 6" dam created a very accessible shower entrance. Using the stained glass window as inspiration, a custom colored glass mosaic accent tile was designed and used in the new niches and as a statement for the new shower wall. Stylish grab bars completed the elegant, safe and very usable new showering space.
