With breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay, we updated this home's exterior with new, industrial-inspired decks to maximize outdoor enjoyment. The overly-dark existing deck railings and garage roof of this mid-century modern home called for a complete rebuild. Former, solid, horizontal, wood siding was replaced with light, open, cable railing and custom- designed posts, creating an updated period look and maximizing views.

With the garage’s prominence at the pedestrian level, a new steel-and-frosted-glass door provides a huge aesthetic and functional improvement over the former door. This critical design element helps to define the updated, modern aesthetic of the home.

Existing decks were removed and rebuilt with reinforced steel, providing the homeowners with spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay. Metal flashing and garage doors gave the home extra "curb" appeal.

The open metal grate floor of the viewing deck off the main Living Room allows light to spill into the lower level. Extending the required roof flashing turns a functional upgrade into a prominent design feature.

Two, formerly odd-shaped bedrooms at the back of the house are combined to create a comfortable master suite. Locating the closet behind a partial height wall allows the visual continuity of the unique ceiling, while also making the room feel more spacious and maximizing flow of light.

Bamboo cabinetry combined with concrete countertops and updated lighting provides the owners with the modern aesthetic they desired. Current, green building products and principles were utilized in a way that harmonizes with the original architectural style of the home.
