This backyard renovation meets the client goals of attaining a safer, more inviting patio area that provides access to a terraced vegetable garden directly adjacent to the patio area. There were issues of accessibility from both the house and lawn areas in the backyard as well as challenges with storm water management that also needed to be addressed.

The design created level access from the basement family room onto the patio which is enclosed by stone walls. The vegetable garden areas sit on walled terraces to the south and southeast of the patio. Stone steps provide access to the terraces and the other backyard areas. Stormwater is managed through placement of rain gardens surrounding the patio.
