Baldwin Hills Kitchen Renovation

This Baldwin Hills convent needed a major update to be suitable for a single mother and teenage daughter. Tackling the house one area at a time, the kitchen and the teen's bedroom were the first renovations undertaken.

The kitchen was completely overhauled and converted into a contemporary open-concept layout, which was made affordable with Ikea SEKTION cabinets.

The existing kitchen featured a desk space with pantry closets on either side, which made the space feel very dense and small. By removing the built-in cabinetry and one of the pantry closets, we were able to relocate the refrigerator and provide ample pantry storage with new full-height cabinetry!

The peninsula with upper cabinetry made the kitchen feel very small in an otherwise large space. The unnecessary ceiling drop was created to house outdated fluorescent lights. The only thing worth keeping was the garden window, which provided great lighting in the space.

Kitchen Demolition: We removed all of the cabinetry, the existing soffit and fluorescent lighting, and all of the tile flooring and 1/2" concrete sub-floor. This allowed for the hardwood flooring to continue seamlessly thoughout the house and new open-concept plan.
