Burbank Farmhouse Kitchen

First time homeowners purchase a small 850 sq.ft. home for their young family. By knocking out some walls to open the kitchen to the dining and living room, the new open concept layout felt spacious and bright! Creative space planning maximized storage and reclaimed wood and pipe accents completed the contemporary industrial farmhouse look!

This entire space was transformed when we knocked down the two walls separating the kitchen from the rest of the house. By opening up the space, light flooded throughout the house making it so much brighter and happier.

By switching the location of the range and the sink, we were able to maximize the functionality of the space and create a peninsula that seats four. The glass front cabinets also help to visually enlarge the space.

The matte black pull-out sink faucet was the perfect contemporary touch to this industrial farmhouse kitchen. The material tied in perfectly with the rest of the hardware and balanced out the contrast of darks and lights.

This light fixture was pretty controversial on the episode, but once the Client saw it installed, she could finally see how well it tied in with the rest of the industrial accents her husband loved. Best part? The entire fixture cost less than $100!

The reclaimed wood accent wall was the feature of the kitchen, but to add some additional storage I built this pipe shelf from plumbing materials at Home Depot and large reclaimed wood slabs. It added the perfect amount of industrial accent to this contemporary farmhouse kitchen.

This door closure is bi-functional. It keeps the laundry door closed, but also serves as a lock from letting the young kids open the door! Plus, it fits perfectly with the industrial farmhouse feel.

I love so many things about this sofa, but the main two things are comfort and contemporary. It was just the right size for this compact space and provided separation from the entry in this open concept living room.

Drapery and sheers are always ideal when you have large windows facing the front of the house. Hanging them close to the ceiling adds height to the room and the sheers provide privacy in the evenings.

Using a dresser for a TV stand doubles as a media cabinet and toy storage for the two kids. The window seat was over-stuffed with accent pillows to encourage a cozy corner to curl up with a book before nap time.
