The left closed door was the old entrance to the basement. The new location is now on the right side with a mudroom created in the open space leading to the existing patio door.

The closet opening became the new entrance to the basement. The tile floor area was closed in creating a mudroom allowing for direct access to the basement without going through the kitchen/home. The corner with the mugs became the space for banquette seating.

A new patio door was added in place of the window as well as a walk-out deck. The washroom (the half door) was pulled forward and wide to make room for the new staircase. This wall became the wall for the refrigerator, range, and sink part of the new galley kitchen.
