Bon Appetit
Although located in a downtown neighborhood, this new construction home is nestled on a wooded lot, surrounded by nature. The homeowners wanted a simplistic but elegant style for the kitchen while fusing the outdoors with the in. The neutral pallet of the kitchen materials invite the vivid colors of the outdoors into the space. The absence of upper cabinets draw ones eye to the beautiful view over the sink and through the large french doors to the patio.
Even though most of their children have already left the nest, this small family still enjoys to entertain and have extended family and friends over. The designed kitchen space with eat-in island serves as the perfect spot for entertaining or eating quiet dinners alone.
With their desire for ultra clean lines and having primarily under-counter storage, organization became of the utmost importance. This influenced the many organizational tools strategically placed throughout the kitchen. Plate pegs in deep drawers and multiple silverware and cutlery dividers were a must; even custom compartments for tumbler cups and lids were added for their "grab and go" lifestyle. The addition of a walk-in pantry, along with a butler's pantry adjacent to the kitchen area, provides the storage of dry goods and oversized serving pieces that would otherwise be stored in upper cabinets.
When asked to describe their dream kitchen, we noticed a subtle French reoccurring theme during the initial design study with the homeowners. With this vision, we were then able to build a timeless design around sophisticated and classic materials. Deep cocoa stained cabinets on textural quarter sawn oak are topped with soft Carrera Marble. Crisp white subway tile frames the perimeter of the kitchen and cleanly ascends behind the commercial style chimney hood. Authentic French bistro chairs and mercury glass lanterns above the island are reminders of the French influences the homeowners admired.
