Breakfast Point Eclectic Apartment

This project was a wonderfully creative experience for both myself and my clients, and a truly enjoyable one to realise! It’s hard to believe this project was completed 5 years ago!

When John & Julie called me in early 2013, they had recently moved into the apartment and wanted to really express their personalities after downsizing from a large family home. The apartment had great bones. It was on ground floor and had a lush green yard that Jack had been spending the last few months fostering. The garden was blooming, but the couple were very much wanting to create their personal stamp inside the home.

After our initial Consultation and through a period lasting several weeks, we created a wonderfully personal renovation & decoration plan that included pulling up the open plan carpet and tiled Kitchen area. Every inch of Jack & Julie’s personality was taken into account during the design process. We used a number of very personal items, and in some cases made major updates that bought heirloom pieces into the current day. A woven cloth from Vietnam was pulled out of a dark cupboard and framed beautifully, it’s orange, blue & wheatgerm colourings were used as the new colour palette for the client’s master bedroom. Vintage occasional chairs had their seats re-upholstered in wonderfully patterned and vibrantly colourful fabrics by US designer Jonathan Adler.

Existing sofas from King furniture were kept, but we added a stunning armless blue sofa with eclectic sunburst cushions to make the piece pop. What started out as a beige and unpatterned interior started to take real shape! I was also commissioned to paint a large poppy flower designed to hang above the new blue sofa. It became a focal point in the newly revitalised living room. The excitement on Jack & Julie’s face as we lead them through for the final reveal was ecstatic and one of the best reveals I’ve seen since I began in 2010.

John & Julie’s testimonial is here on Houzz! I love the following snippet:

“From Day 1 it was an amazing journey. Adam and Ben worked with our ideas, furniture and accessories to develop a most fabulous design that had us both in awe at how well it reflected us and our tastes. Not only do they have outstanding knowledge, talent and skills, but their willingness to go the extra distance with every detail of our project to ensure that we would get the best result possible has been fantastic and most impressive. They supervised and implemented every aspect of our project and their attention to detail is truly outstanding. And the result – incredible incredible incredible !!!
We are truly living the dream. John & Julie, Breakfast Point”

P.S I’m now renovating John & Julie’s Kitchen, and we are updating some of the soft furnishings after a terrific first 5 years. I look forwarding to sharing the after photos with you here when we are done!
