Brighter space, Davidson
How do you update and expand a space when you have to stay in the original footprint? That was the question posed in this compact "U" shaped space in Davidson. The homeowner wanted to have additional storage space as well as workspace. By removing the original raised bar and adding 15" deep cabinets on the dining side of the peninsula, both objectives were reached. The new, one level peninsula provides a larger work surface and serving area, and the new, frameless cabinets offer more storage than the original cabinets. The lighter painted finish and light granite countertop help make the space much brighter and open. Replacing the microwave with a stainless steel hood (a new microwave lives in the walk-in pantry), and placing the refrigerator in a deeper, paneled cabinet, allow the cooktop area to have a streamlined appearance and helps showcase the new tumbled tile backsplash. These small changes gave this space a high impact update, all in the original footprint!
