The red clay country of Tennessee and the Buffalo river is home to Shepherd Glen. A modest series of buildings include a reconstructed cabin for writing (writer's cabin), a main cabin with a culinary kitchen that opens onto two geo-thermal ponds supplying cooling and heating to all the buildings and a bunk cabin to sleep six. With a 20 year-old daughter in a wheelchair, the entire compound as well as the pond had to be accessible.

Most of the stone and wood was sourced locally and constructed with local labor and the client's father overseeing the project. The project is best captured by the word vernacular, since it resembles a cabin one might find in the hills of Tennessee. A small solar field provides limited electricity to all the buildings.
