Carlyle Condo 39th Floor Residence

Clean architectural details paired with modern furnishings in this loft space complement the commanding views of downtown Minneapolis and the Mississippi River.
This top floor unit of a new 41-story residential tower was purchased as a partially built-out space. The client wanted more open living space with enhanced river views to allow the city and the river to be a part of the living experience. To achieve this goal, floating Venetian plaster ceiling planes were installed at key view corridors to draw attention to the scenic riverfront vistas. Deep wood frames surround windows and thresholds to bring focus to the views. The original partition walls were removed, leaving only the concrete structural walls to form a simple, open shell. The materials, furnishings, and detailing draw inspiration from the textures, tones, and layering in handmade papers the client procured on a trip to Bhutan.
