ASLA Honor Award

Set high on the terminal moraine of Martha's Vineyard, this project emphasizes the unique quality of the glacial landscape. Existing glacial erratics have been incorporated as key design elements while grading and sight lines underscore the the dramatic contours of the local terrain. The front entry boardwalk continues to be read in the wood flooring of the house and rear deck, evolving into a stone plank walkway leading towards the pool. this north/south axis is a central spine connecting parking court, entry garden, house and rear lawn. A granite retaining wall running the length of the lawn becomes a set of stairs leading to a path. Throughout the site, the crisp lines of the areas adjacent to the house and pool are contrasted by the less ordered landscape of native meadow and woodland.
