The existing century old coach house was too dilapidated to be inhabited, so a new, modern "coach house" was in its place for a young couple to live in. The 1800 sqft house was distributed over 1 1/2 storeys, with only a driveway presence to main street. The site was tight and unusual, with the house fitting snugly between three of the four property lines that contain it. All the rooms were therefore organized around an internal courtyard for private outdoor space, and maximum glazing. It managed to capture the idyllic backyard views typical of this Toronto neighbourhood.
