This coastal living room was inspired for a casual lifestyle. Four chairs in creamy, light hues help keep the room airy. The open cocktail table keeps the room from getting too crowded. The over-sized, ocean inspired abstract art piece plays off the area rug and the reclaimed wood cabinet.

My client called me in to re-create her fairly new home. She wanted to create a space that was her own and accommodate the simple, casual lifestyle she desired. The living room was crowded into the corner of the home and disconnected from it all. My client loves the beach and wanted a coastal inspired decor. After a complete home renovation in which the footprint of the house was altered, the living room was moved into a more convenient position taking a big section of what was the family room. The space is now quite narrow and only has one window.

I used four chairs to create the sitting area; two are extra-large and upholstered in vanilla leather. The other two chairs are scaled down and upholstered in a taupe tweed for interest. A simple round cocktail table with a glass top provides place for drinks but doesn’t take up visual space.

A reclaimed retro piece adorns the far wall to provide visual interest and storage. An over-sized abstract art piece that inspires the feel of flowing ocean waters overlooks the chairs. The perfect blue hued, coordinating rug adorns the floor and unifies the seating area. Atop the cocktail table, a unique floating dolphin dances through the room.

The one window is kept open to provide as much light as possible and simple drapery panels were installed in a whimsical floral pattern to keep the space lighthearted. Other coastal inspired accessories complete the look alongside the fishtail palm to bring the outdoors in.

My client is amazed that this once useless room now has a purpose, and is a beautiful view on the way to her master bedroom.
