Concord Grapevine Cottage
The very first Concord grapevine was cultivated at this property and was the birthplace of a new strain of grape that is now commonly used when making Welch's grape juice and jelly. When we were engaged on this project, a freak tornado had just passed through the back of the property barely missing both the garage and the house. Many mature trees were destroyed and had to be removed before we could begin our work. This house is regularly viewed by thousands of tourists passing through Concord, MA and it was important to the homeowner to have a landscape that was welcoming but at the same time creating privacy for himself. As well, the homeowner wanted a lush, green landscape with few flowers. We snuck in some flowers but mostly the landscape has evergreen shrubs and trees with some flowering shrubs and perennials sprinkled in to liven up the space.
