Countryside Manor Kitchen

This 460 square foot Chesterfield kitchen was once home to builder grade cabinets and an outdated boring design, neither of which met the needs of its new owners. The list of requests was lengthy, but the top priority was to brighten up the space by opening up the kitchen to the living room without sacrificing cabinet space. This was accomplished by eliminating the existing pantry to create an additional walkway into the living room. Now, light from the living room and front entry stream into the kitchen, making it lighter and brighter as requested. A wall was also eliminated to allow for a new wrap around wet-bar, which replaces the used-to-be unusable desk area. The next priority was to take the electric cook top off the island and replace it with a 48” commercial gas range, which fit perfectly under the existing vaulted ceiling beam. The original plan was for this beam to be wrapped in wood, but mid-project, additional beams were added to help the space feel cozy and cohesive. Track lighting, another eye sore of the kitchen, was replaced with can lights to provide ample illumination, and pendants to provide dimension & interest. All lights were made dimmable in order to meet any future lighting needs. While the island used to be large, there was not much usable counter or storage space. With clients that cook and entertain, a new 78” x 60” island was just what the kitchen needed. The island is now home to cook book storage, plenty of large drawers, and a tucked away microwave which used to take up precious counter space. Just around the corner, a collection of Waterford Crystal is displayed on the made over butler pantry, complete with inside and under cabinet lights. This project has custom cabinets with inset doors and drawers, under cabinet molding, and a subtle staggering that helps highlight the tall ceilings. While the project took longer than the client expected, they said it was all worth it in the end and they wouldn’t have done anything different.
