Crooked Creek

The homeowners of this 1970's home are a busy family of 5, transplanted to the Dallas area from Austin, Texas. They've always carried a soft spot in their hearts for their former city, so we used that Austin vibe as our jumping-off point and transformed this fairly standard suburban interior into a Hill Country Modern gem.

Functionally, the layout wasn't working well for how we live today. The traditional U-shaped kitchen layout with peninsula cut the usable kitchen space in half. Beyond that, a MONSTER fireplace wrapped the corner from the living room to the kitchen and became the strangest built-in stove and double oven situation we have ever encountered (the before and afters at the bottom of the page are a must-see). We reworked the layout and the fireplace, creating an open and airy modern kitchen with the most charming breakfast nook we ever did see. A few years later we returned to update the backyard and master bedroom to reflect that same Hill Country Modern style.
