This custom built-in freshwater aquarium was integrated directly into the kitchen backsplash of this Brooklyn, New York residence. Positioned above the kitchen sink and framed between the surrounding custom cabinetry, the aquarium was designed to become a functional architectural feature while maintaining a clean and seamless appearance throughout the space.

The homeowners wanted to visually open the kitchen area and create a stronger connection to the adjoining family room located on the opposite side of the wall. The aquarium now serves as a living focal point within the home while preserving open sightlines between the spaces.

Careful planning was required to coordinate the aquarium dimensions, cabinetry layout, structural support, plumbing access, and filtration integration so the aquarium would feel naturally built into the kitchen design rather than added afterward.
