The Davis residence is located in breath-taking Valley Center, California. The original kitchen was that of a 1950s ranch home (including the original wall oven!) We kept the original layout, but incorporated a more "universal design" for the space. Mrs. Davis is of smaller stature, while her husband is tall. The Davis' also have a love for canning fruits and vegetables from their garden. Because of these two things, it was very important to create a very functional peninsula cooking area. We lowered this area, so when Mrs. Davis cooks, she is more comfortable; and when it is canning season, she can see into those large stock pots. We used a huge three-basin sink, and incorporated a second faucet-His and Hers-so Mr. and Mrs. Davis could work side by side. We also deleted the original "bridge" cabinetry above the cook-top and created a more open design-allowing more flow when entertaining. We also redesigned their large walk-in pantry to allow ample storage for all of those canned goods, and Costco trips!
