A sampling of decks over the last 30 odd years. Mostly simple designs reflecting informal spaces.

Three level deck in wooded setting used to cover major drainage swale that runs along the rear of the residence. Solution kept the swale in place, minimizing grading while providing multiple spaces for outdoor enjoyment. Deck includes both a dining and cooking area.

Detail of risers between deck levels. All changes in elevation should have at least 1 tread and two risers to accommodate normal foot traffic. A simple drop from one level to the next without a step seem to be uncomfortable for most, creating a trip hazard for some. Note lighting in steps.
