Denver Post Modern
Designed by F9 Productions, one of Denver’s most award-winning residential architecture firms, this Japanese-inspired home stands as a modern masterpiece in the heart of the city. Combining contemporary American design with the timeless calm of Japanese tradition, the residence offers a serene, private oasis enveloped in light, texture, and craftsmanship.
Rising three and a half stories — including a fully finished basement — the home is a study in balance and flow. At its center, a glass-wrapped elevator glides through all levels, connecting spaces visually and physically while framing unique design moments along the way.
The Idea
The clients envisioned a peaceful urban retreat — a home that would honor their love of Japanese culture while embracing the comforts of modern American living. F9 Productions translated that vision into a design that fuses minimalist precision with warm materiality and an intimate relationship to nature.
The home’s butterfly roof captures and channels water inward rather than away, mirroring Japanese reverence for natural systems. Its form also floods the interior with natural light, making daylight a living part of the architecture.
Design and Craft
Every surface and material was selected to embody calm, refinement, and permanence. The home is entirely wrapped in Porcelanosa tile, a bold design choice that extends across patios, walkways, and outdoor living spaces — blurring the lines between inside and out.
In-floor radiant heating runs through every level, including in-slab tubing in the basement and Warmboard sheathing above, ensuring comfort year-round. The materials, systems, and details work together seamlessly, balancing high performance with artistry.
Inside the Home
Each floor tells its own story.
Lower Level: A private retreat with an in-home cinema, wine room, and home gym featuring springboard floors — a space dedicated to wellness and leisure.
Main Floor: The social hub of the home, centered around a custom kitchen with a retractable downdraft island range, a preparatory pantry, and a double-sided fireplace shared with the living room. A flexible office with a guest bed completes this versatile level.
Upper Floor: Two bedrooms, a shared piano lounge, and open-concept views to the living area below create a sense of connection and airiness.
Master Suite Loft: A tranquil perch overlooking the backyard garden — the home’s private sanctuary — offering both sunrise and moonlit views.
Upstairs Lounge: Complete with a wet bar and decks facing east and west, perfect for quiet mornings and glowing Colorado sunsets.
Landscape and Light
The exterior environment is as intentional as the architecture itself. Lush vegetation, water features, and layered plantings provide privacy and peace, transforming the property into a hidden garden within the city. This landscape design completes the home’s balance — a seamless dialogue between structure and nature.
The Result
The Japanese-Inspired Custom Home in Denver is a meditation on design harmony — where light, texture, and function come together to create an atmosphere of calm sophistication.
It stands as a fusion of two worlds: the restraint and mindfulness of Japanese architecture blended with the innovation and comfort of contemporary American living.
From its butterfly roof to its glass-wrapped elevator, every detail reflects F9 Productions’ dedication to crafting homes that are both timeless and deeply personal — architecture that feels as peaceful as it is powerful.
