Design Matters - Getting Creative with Tiny Bathrooms

In this project we converted the former kitchen to a new mudroom and full bath. The goal was to maximize the size of the mudroom while still having a powder room and an extra shower.
The major constraints were the two existing kitchen windows. The one needed to be in the mudroom, and the other was a big glass block window behind the range.
The solution was to design a narrow vanity sink against the back wall in front of the glass block window. We blacked out most of the glass block wall and inserted a frame for mirror with a shelf, and additional floating shelves in front of the glass. The result was a charming, cozy powder room with a "secret" shower, natural light, privacy, and custom shelves for display.
The glass block window allowed us to recess the mirror back from the face of the wall. The frame sticks out slightly and the result leaves small shelves in front of the glass for nick nacks and seasonal decorations.

The toilet is slightly offset from the room center which allows more room from the vanity, and leaves dedicated floor space for the toilet brush, plunger, and trash can.

Although tight, the layout certainly provides sufficient space for a powder room, and then the shower area has its own separate drying space.

The design of the mirror shelf allowed us to build the lower wall out so that the plumbing was not in the outside wall.
