Expansive views of the Foothills and county Open Space, is the backdrop for this contemporary west Boulder neighborhood. These newly constructed homes all started out with finished landscapes, but our client came to us looking to upgrade her patio and have it transition better to the rest of their back yard. Since their land borders open fields of prairie grasses, it was was an opportunity for Ecoscape's designer, Lisa Sangelo, PLA to utilize this overlap of biomes. From a permacultural perspective, these 'edges' serve as 'energy traps' or places where resources can be maximized for greater effect or yield. Not only did the redesign increase the plant diversity near the open space, but it also increased the usability of their back deck to access their new raised herb garden more gracefully.
