Acting as architect and builder, we renovated an existing corner cafe which is now home to the modern urban coffee shop for Dollop Coffee.

We were able to unearth some of the buildings original structure which we left exposed, and filled the space with reclaimed, white oak counters and tables, zinc topped espresso bar and a glass pastry case, all custom made in Chicago. The original, inefficient storefront was removed and replaced with a large operable glazing system permitting fresh air to flow in and sunlight to filter deep into the space.

The corner location of the coffee shop allowed for a spacious patio on the side street. To create a connection from the cafe interior to the parkway, we reopened a formerly boarded up window to fabricate a walk-up (or cycle-up, if you’re so inclined) ordering window. The redesigned, landscaped parkway patio will open in the summer where coffee goers can relax among the native grasses and the soon-to-be mighty Elm tree.
