Art and life in harmony.

This was a truly exciting brief for the Michele Safra interior design team as it involved displaying a large and eclectic collection of modern, Asian and ancient art within a residential home. Our role was to enable the owners to display their collection in a harmonious and balanced way that wouldn’t affect the practical functionality of the home but, rather, add to it aesthetically.

Of course, it would be too easy, not to mention, cliché, to use standard ‘white box’ display casing. For this interior design project, we needed to think ‘out of the box’ and inside the mindset of our client. The works of art were key to understanding what appealed to the owners. Clearly, they wanted their home to be filled with warm colours and finishes in a range of eclectic styles. Our job was to enhance their art while still creating a cosy and welcoming home environment.

We were able to do this through subtle interior design touches that brought out the best in the art. The use of Greco-Roman patterning in the marble flooring is a good example here, sitting alongside and complementing ancient styles of arts. Innovative use of lighting was important too.

In a diverse mix of styles from the traditional to the contemporary, the design echoes the tastes of the owners, yet all seems to come together effortlessly. The result is both a residential home that elicits past memories of wanderings through art galleries.
