Dutch Revival

This former 80's style kitchen gets a swell update, inspired by the owner's Dutch heritage. A fluorescent tray light was replaced with recessed LED lighting, crystal pendant lights, and a quaint chandelier over the new "nook" area. Fabricut Roman Shades and Thibaut striped wallpaper add texture and softness. The generous barstools from Ballard Design are a favorite with the couple's guests.

This "new" sparking kitchen has warmth and character that beckons family and friends to linger. A blue and white color scheme feels fresh and clean and the sparkle, inspired by the wife's Southern roots, adds just the right amount of glamour.

An awkward layout was changed to bring the space into perspective, creating a beautiful space for cooking, entertaining and grandchildren's crafts. Granite counter tops were the inspiration for the grey lower cabinets and white upper cabinets.

The garden beyond the nook is cleverly showcased out the corner windows, and the outside is welcomed in with a trellis inspired Fabricut fabric used on the Roman Shades.

The family room envelopes its occupants in warmth with its foundation of an antique red and blue rug. The homeowners wanted to keep their furniture, but were willing to re-upholster their pieces to embrace their new blue and white theme.

The fireplace was completely re-done in the spirit and style of dutch design. The new gas insert was surrounded in carrara marble and accented with Delft tiles above. A Dutch print hangs above with classic topiaries for added softness.

A little vignette from the bookcases includes the couple's wedding photo ...this year, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. It's such a privilege to display the collections of a couple so special.

The dining room continues the blue and white theme in understated window treatments, runners, and chair seat upholstery.

This inset bookcase was re-worked with LED tape lighting, and glass shelves replaced the old oak shelving to showcase the couple's extraordinary collection of antique glass serving dishes. The light blue paint color in the back of the bookcase makes the collection take on an ethereal quality.
