Warm Eclectic Kitchen

A pause in the craziness of life led our homeowner to consider a change in her kitchen. She wanted a place to display collections and heirlooms, provide ample storage for pantry items and gadgets, and give her a view to her breathtaking backyard. We expanded the footprint, pushing the house line back six feet, installed a picture window with a spectacular copper range and hood centered beneath, and planned her collections display areas for maximum effect.

Warm Eclectic Kitchen

The leaded glass doors were salvaged from a home in Newport Beach, CA. New frames were built to incorporate them into the cabinetry. The back of the cabinet is clad in the same brick adorning the walls. Appliance garages house coffee makers, toasters, even a microwave.

The kitchen boasts expansive views of the garden beyond. The windows are operational for light spring breezes and for ventilation. Between the stud storage is shown on the right for client mementos.

The homeowner prefers a graphic, woodsy look and used the theme in the kitchen nook for soft goods. Fabrics are performance so that pets may enjoy the sunshine on the window bench without worry.

Before, this kitchen was dark and cramped. there was an obstructed path to the laundry room beyond where the couple's rescue dogs treats and supplies are kept. We decided to push the new exterior kitchen wall out past the window on the wall running perpendicular to the sink wall.

The 90's style plant shelf and drop ceiling were removed in favor of a more open feeling and high, slanted ceiling. the wall was extended to the edge of the hallway wall for additional wall space in the kitchen for custom cabinetry and display areas.

These are the salvaged leaded glass doors from a home in Newport Beach, CA we used as a feature in the kitchen on the wall perpendicular to the new range/window wall.

This is a floor plan representation of the "before" view of the kitchen. We pushed it our 5 feet, installed a massive fixed panel window with operational sidelights, moved the range to the window wall and the sink to the new, exquisite island.
