Embracing the Landscape

This hillside garden in the Lamorinda region provides pleasure and recreation for the family and their guests, habitat for wildlife, and sanctuary to hundreds of California native trees and plants. Challenges facing the project team included steep hillsides, poor soil, enduring sunlight, and grazing deer. We blended several garden styles to meet the client's goals of updating the existing landscape with drought and deer-tolerant plantings that emphasize spring and fall color.

To enhance the traditional Tudor architecture of the main house, we tailored the planting style of the ornamental areas surrounding the house to be classic and formal. In the recreational areas of the property, a vibrant, color-saturated planting design complements the client's energetic lifestyle and provides lovely spaces in which to entertain.
