Enatai Mid Century Remodel

Located in the old school suburban Enatai neighborhood of Bellevue, Washington, this house has been a perfect example of a comfortable, Northwest mid century home, but has always been asking for it’s roof to be raised. After twenty two years under the same ownership, finally the owners can enjoy the Southwest views of sky, lake, Mercer Island shores and the Seattle skyline in the distance. Medici Architects took the existing ridge beam location to begin the new roof uplift. With the floor to ceiling wall of Innotech windows, and a thirteen foot wide by nine foot tall Nana wall, the outside is truly felt inside on everyday of the year.

In the dining room there the existing clearstory windows were kept, the trim was removed to bring out the clean lines of the modern dogma.
There is a seamless flow from the inside to all of the outside viewing spots on both levels of the house. The kitchen is original, but will be next on the list of remodel projects for this house.

For the upper floor of this daylight house, vertical clear cedar siding was used which is complimented with a rain screen base of Core-ten steel siding. The desired red colors should be in full bloom after this homes first northwest winter.
Bar grating was used to shade the windows of the home office tall box component, and also for one of the main deck floors. B&T Design & Engineering engineered a beautiful steel beam cantilever system to provide the base for this bar decked, deck. This floating deck allows light to flow into the daylight room below in winter, as well as shade this area in the summer all without feeling heavy or dark below.

Originally there was a redwood timber trellis that stood for fifteen years in the back yard. This trellis has been repurposed and used as informal outdoor seating arena, around a clay fire urn. This idea was discovered by accident, the backyard was up against a deadline to host the cocktail party portion of the neighbor’s perfect backyard wedding. The Owners were planning to build an at grade deck, but ran out of time and had to fill the void in the grass with something. The timbers had been kept, but it was not known how to use them, now they have another home, right at home.
