Project Enatai- Bellevue Custom

The Enatai House is nestled in a picturesque, tree-lined neighborhood of Bellevue. Situated on a large, linear corner lot with mature trees and a significant grade change from front to back, the site offered both challenges and opportunities. The design concept was to create a family home that serves as a backdrop to stunning views of Lake Washington and the distant Seattle skyline.

We responded by carefully integrating the house into the landscape, preserving the existing trees and stepping the structure to follow the natural contours of the land. As visitors walk down the site, they are greeted by expansive Lake Washington views, framed by the majestic presence of an old-growth Magnolia tree in the distance.

Inside, the design aims to create moments of delight and seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. At the entry foyer, a soft-sacked concrete wall extends from the exterior into the interior, blurring the boundary between the two.

Ascending the floating steel, glass, and wood staircase, one reaches the landing and is immediately reconnected to the outdoors through oversized clerestory windows that showcase the surrounding treetops. The stairs lead to the second-floor bedroom level, an open and light-filled space.

The interior palette is intentionally muted and understated, allowing the vibrant greenery and serene water views to take center stage. Built-in Henrybuilt cabinetry is used throughout the house, including a custom-designed primary bed platform and nightstands.

Descending the stairs, attention is drawn to the built-in tatami room, where the owners plan to host traditional Japanese tea ceremonies for family and friends. By integrating thoughtful design solutions and maximizing the natural beauty of the site, the Enatai House offers a harmonious balance of function, elegance, and serenity.
