Entertaining Outdoors, Glen Ellyn Backyard Pavillion

A large corner lot with a tiny pie shaped back yard made for some interesting design challenges. The solution was to turn every inch of space the village would let us have into an outdoor refuge with carefully organized areas for cooking and entertaining under a custom cedar pavilion.

A CBO 750 Pizza oven and a wood burning fire place really heat things up in this outdoor living space. Reclaimed barn wood timbers are employed as the mantle and furnishings. Mega Arbel and Lafitte Pavers with Old World accents and Weston Stone retaining walls are by Belgard.

This DCS gas grill is built into a Belgard Weston Stone island topped in Silestone quartz. Low voltage LED landscape lighting fixtures by Unique create a soft glow, illuminating work & counter spaces for evening meal preparation and entertaining.

Plantings include Paperbark Maple (Acer griseum), a beautiful small tree with red fall color and cinnamon brown shredding/peeling bark.

The original patio on this suburban Chicago home was inadequate for the busy family's activities. Aside from issues with the base preparation apparent in the original installation, the size and layout just didn't work.

Things are really taking shape now. The pavilion is completed and stained, the grill island is up and running (and being used regularly in spite of the mess)

The second semi load of Belgard hardscape material is on the jobsite. It's a little crowded, but now we can start setting pavers and put the finishing touches on the pizza oven and fireplace!

We're in the home stretch and things are coming together nicely. Even the building inspector is pleased!
