The Value Of Architecture

FAB Architecture: Modern Farmhouse

Architects Pam Chandler and Patrick Ousey of FAB Architecture have collaborated with custom builder Texas Construction Company to render this new home in a language that combines both historical references and modern design sensibilities. The house is well-sited and contextual, with pitched roof, white clapboard siding and black 4-pane windows like those protecting farms since Republic of Texas times. Yet the entry details – offset placement, slender steel canopy, single lite front door, sophisticated wall sconces, and eye-catching street numbers – all point to something more contemporary. Inside, an open floor plan, crisp white walls, wide plank wood floors and a wood-burning Rumford fireplace define a cutting-edge urban lifestyle. Other finishes are consistent throughout: Carrera marble, custom cabinets, elegant white subway tile with precise black grout joints, stainless steel appliances and European fixtures. Featured on the AIA and Modern Home tours, exceptionally well-designed and solidly built, this successful project combines old and new in a way that is imminently warm and inviting. 3 BD, 2-1/2 BA, 2,164 SF.
