Farmhouse

Yorkville Design Centre worked with the client to create a comfortable and beautiful farmhouse which they can spend their holiday together while in Canada. Yorkville Design Centre did all the interior design, decoration, furniture selection and space planning. We worked with each family member to customize their own bedroom to reflect their taste. The great open concept living room, dining room and kitchen was very important since this is where they spend most of their time. The vaulted and beamed ceiling and the beautiful country view out the large windows really allows you to breath. Architect for the project was Bill Hurst.

The front of the house. Welcome home. The colours from the stone facing the house are found again on the paving and even in the choice of gravel for the driveway.

The high arched windows in this grand living room look out over the Ontario countryside, the tone of the frames complemented nicely by the bright ceiling wood chosen by Yorkville Design Centre. The room blends in with nature outside.

But, for now, the family can simply gaze out at their stunning view while the sun brightens the room itself.

The furniture in the room also complements the motif. Accents of colour across the room keep it fresh, and remind its inhabitants of the spring flowers, summer streams and fall colours waiting just outside.

And come winter, when none of the colours represented inside are out, the family can curl up by the fireplace and wait in its warmth for the snow to melt and the spring flowers to bloom again.

The laundry room is equipped with granite countertops for added elegance & sophistication. The hanging lamps also drive away the notion of this being a secondary area. Every part of a house is top notch when you let YDC design.

The artistic daughter's love of flowers is displayed prominently, yet subtly, in this room of subdued hues. No doubt the pillows are lavender scented and help make for a peaceful night's sleep.

A brilliant blue has been chosen for the bunk beds and back wall. The sheets are a blend between the two colours--a calming baby blue. It seems the grandchildren are growing architects themselves--a man's home is his castle, but they've taken it literally!

The boys’ love of bold colours is displayed in just the right amount. YDC was smart in choosing a more neutral colour for the rest of the walls, or else we'd be drowning in ocean blue.

The in-house bar displays the family’s own line of rums. The olive and charcoal colour scheme gives it a contemporary feel, and the cabinets have plenty of space to store their home island liquor.

The large sliding windows that you'd never see in any real English pub remind the owners and their guests that there’s more to life than enjoying the bar inside—they are free to go outside at any time and enjoy the landscape or go for a swim.

The millwork design from the cabinets follows through to the accents of this comfortable master bed.

The interior of the master bathroom. Double sinks, with a small mirror added to the counter to complement the larger mirror on the wall. In the reflection, you can see the unique shower design with the sliding glass door and chrome wheels, a good marker of a YDC shower.

Evocative of the master bedroom, this guest bedroom has the walls painted a calming blue, giving the room a bit of a nautical feel; like a ship, the inhabitants are docked at your port.

The guest bathroom, equipped with two sinks in case a couple stays over. The same shower design as the master bath is featured in the back.

The chandelier complements the bannister perfectly. Its design also gives the walls a very nice texture, making the whole section of this house a little art fixture. Speaking of fixtures, this new one makes the lighting much more functional.

The contemporary furniture is complemented by a door that looks centuries-old. The lighting around the painting helps the room blend together: the way the lights are positioned is very much like candles would be. One's house is one's castle, after all.

We finally arrive at the open kitchen and dining room, where the ceilings and spirits are both equally high. Continuing the previous room's castle theme, this room almost feels like a banquet hall in miniature.

The built-in fridge blends in with the white cabinets (also providing sufficient ventilation for the fridge all around), and the granite is just the right colour to go well with the dark wood and the white.

The beauty is in the details. Notice how perfectly the double oven is designed into the cabinetry. Also notice that the amount the gas range is exposed is mimicked by the little turn in the countertop under the discrete doorknob of the hidden cabinet.

Sit in this chair, and you'll really feel like you are presiding over the kitchen work in progress. Granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, everything shining and reflecting immaculately, including your own image on the tiles behind the stove.

The outside of the home continues to carry the theme of the rest of it: stone blocks and courtyards plus the wooden patios and glass-walled pools reflect the Transitional style of the home.
