Flagstone Patio with Custom Garden Beds

Flagstone patio using Silver Quartzite from Southwest Boulder and Stone and planted with Dymondia margaretae "Silver Carpet". We also designed and built a 30" x 20" x 100' custom redwood garden bed that was sunk into the ground to improve water retention and provide a compaction free growing space for veggies for the client who is an avid gardener. Everything is irrigated with efficient dripline emitters or MP rotator overhead spray.

Dymondia margaretae filling in gaps in flagstone. Sunken garden bed borders patio providing great growing conditions for vegetables without increasing evaporation. Client tends to garden on her own. Note the cilantro sprout under the fig she let to grow. :) (Photo 5 months after installation)

Redwood garden bed with drip irrigation system installed. Beds are 20" deep providing sufficient uncompacted growing space for veggies. Flagstone patio replaced a soggy, patchwork grass area.

Another look at the patio after testing the irrigation system. The brown spots are small spaces still waiting to fill in by the Dymondia (which spreads by runners). You can also pilfer plants from dense areas to fill in gaps elsewhere.
