French Flair in Winchester
This quaint 1930's Winchester home had an excellent location north of Boston with a lot of potential, but not a ton of room to expand. The existing bathrooms were very small, the kitchen long and narrow, and one room that acted as a study at the side of the house was barely used by the family. They desired a more spacious master suite, a mudroom, and a large kitchen with an island where they could entertain their family and friends. In order to meet all their design goals, Cummings Architects bumped out the rear wall of the old kitchen by about 8'-6". While not a huge addition, it allowed for a spacious kitchen and an extended bedroom above. The unused study space on the first floor was reworked into the new mudroom, powder bathroom, and a pantry with direct access to the kitchen. Above the mudroom and pantry became the new master bathroom and closet, with a stunning marble tile rug and deep gray cabinetry. The expanded kitchen features custom white inset cabinetry, a coffered ceiling, and a sizeable granite island that can seat six. The jewel of the kitchen is undoubtedly the black french range, a Lacanche Saulieu. It shines amongst the white cabinetry! And the unlacquered brass accents on the stove were used throughout the kitchen and pantry. The renovation shows how even a small bump out addition can drastically transform a home.
