French Quarter Residence
This project consists of 3 structures in the Vieux Carre that were built circa 1815. The buildings were extensively renovated incorporating contemporary floor plans and building systems. The program called for full exterior restoration and interior renovations of the existing buildings while meeting the requirements of the Vieux Carre Commission and the National Parks Service.
These structures all had extensive termite damage as well as failing foundations. The buildings were completely gutted to the exterior walls. The original historic roof truss has been shored in place so that a new foundation could be added. New exterior studs were scabbed alongside the original decayed studs in order to preserve the original fabric. A new floor plan was created moving the living area to the courtyard side to open onto the landscaped patio. Beaded board ceilings have been restored in portions of the house and the early 19th C. wood truss structure has been exposed in the living and kitchen area.
General improvements to all 3 structures included all new mechanical systems incorporating geothermal HVAC systems. Courtyard renovations also included new flagstone paving throughout, fountains, exterior lighting, and new plant materials. The historic interior has been restored, adding a new kitchen and bath in the two rear Cabinets.
