In addition to the wonderful new kitchen, the ceiling was sagging so we fixed some ceiling joists that had been notched and since the ceiling was not level we installed a strip to level out the ceiling. We patched the wood floor where necessary to work with the new layout and then sanded and finished the floor. The outside wall was opened up to add new spray foam insulation which helped to keep the space warm (the old kitchen was always cold). We added a new window in the dinette to closely match the above the kitchen sink. During the remodel we found some knob and tube wiring that we updated with new wiring to make it safer (knob and tube wiring can be a fire hazard especially when it has insulation around it.) We also changed the pantry door, basement door, and bathroom door to match the style of the rest of the house.
